Weevils - Yuck

We have an ongoing problem in our household. Weevils in our pantry. Well I think they're weevils, I don't really know. I like how the word sounds though. Weevils.

What I don't like though is the way the breed and multiply in my pantry leaving almost everything in there unusable.

Even though I always do a really thorough clean out at the first sight of them, the problem is always back within a couple of months. Nasty.

So, that brings me to today. 8am on a beautiful Sunday morning and I've just spent the last two hours throwing out food, scrubbing shelves and checking for weevils.

I've got rid of all my screw-top glass jars (the weevils get into them really easily) and started replacing them with airtight Maxwell and Williams jars (the weevils don't seem to be able to get into them). I already had about half a dozen and found some on sale at Myers yesterday. 40% off meant I got 9 jars for $30. Bargain! Only problem is I need about 14 more. I would have bought them all yesterday, but I had to blow half my weekly budget on paying my overdue phone bill*. The nice kids at Vodafone wouldn't let me upgrade to my iPhone whilst I had an overdue account.

It kind of leaves me with a conundrum. I like to do things on the spot (Gen Y anyone?). So I would love to go back to Myers next week and buy the rest of the jars. Only problem is that because I got them for 40% off I don't think I can justify paying full retail for the rest... It just seems wrong.

I think I will have to force myself to wait until they go on sale again and stock up then.

In the meantime my pantry can look like everything else in my house. Kind of ok and completely unfinished!

* I permanently have an overdue phone bill. One of the things I am truly bad at is paying bills on time. If I had've made New Years Resolutions this year maybe paying my bills on time would have been one of them. But I didn't make resolutions and my bills are still all overdue.

I finally did it

Those of you that know me in real life, know that I have been lusting after an iphone for just about ever.

I have almost bought one so many times.

Every time I've ended up putting some other priority first.

Not this time!

I lost my phone a couple of days ago and when I still couldn't find it today I decided to bite the bullet and get myself an iphone.

I'm really glad I did. It's awesome!

About Us

Welcome to Max and Me, I'm so glad that you've dropped in to visit!

Max and Me is a blog about being a Mum (the best job in the entire world), enjoying being a family and the long, slow (and fun) process of finishing and decorating our family home.

Here's a quick bit of info about us:

I'm happily married to the man of my dreams (Sean), we got married in September 2008 on a perfect day in beautiful Hervey Bay.

A year and a half later I gave birth to our first son, Max. Max is our everything. Sean and I both count our blessings everyday and marvel at the fact that this amazing and beautiful child is our son.
Shortly before our wedding the Big Man and I built our first home. I say 'built', but really it's still a work in progress and probably still will be for the next couple of years. We have a lot to do before it will be finished and we're saving up a little bit at a time. In the meantime it's still very liveable, but by no means perfect.

The rest of our family is made up of our two adorable pets, Cooper and Ollie. Cooper was our first baby and will always have a very special place in my heart. We've been really fortunate with our pets, they're both very sweet natured and love each other as much as they love us.
As well as looking after Max I also work part-time at a job that I really love. As guilty as it makes me feel to say it out loud I often enjoy having a day off from looking after Max. I used to work four days a week, but have recently cut back to just two days. It seems to be the perfect balance for our family. I get plenty of time with Max and still get to keep my foot in the door at work. I'm lucky enough to work for a company that truly values work/life balance and I hope to work there for many years to come.

Besides being a Mum and working I have a few hobbies that I enjoy. I love making things (crafts, cards, invitations, cupcakes etc), planning parties and catching up with my girlfriends. I have also recently taken up photography, I'm not very good yet, but it's something that I really love so hopefully I'll get better with practice. The hobby I am most focused on at the moment is finishing and decorating our house. I spend hours finding inspiration on blogs and saving the photos away for future reference!

I've been blogging for over two years now and I can't imagine not doing it. I used to blog at My (not so) Perfect Life, I plan on keeping that site up, but all my future posts will be here at Max and Me.

Thanks again for stopping by. I love reading blogs, so please take the time to comment and let me know about your blog so I can find out all about you.
