Switching to Nappy Pants (and a Giveaway!!)

This post is brought to you by Nuffnang and BabyLove

I've talked a lot lately about life with a new baby, but there is also another big change going on around here at the moment. At 23 months old, Lincoln is becoming more and more like a little person and much less like a baby. He's moved past walking and now likes to run everywhere, he climbs on top of anything he can find, talks in little sentences and has very strong opinions (which normally involve him yelling 'Noooo' or 'Yeee-uck' at the top of his lungs!!).

One of the biggest challenges we're having is getting him to lie still on his change table for nappy changes. When Mum and Aggie (Sean's mum) were staying with us they learnt first hand that he likes to flip over, kick your belly as hard as he can and generally try to escape at every nappy change. I recently moved his change pad off his table and onto the floor, but all it's done is give him the chance to escape even quicker!

Even though I'd been having all these nappy changing challenges I hadn't really done anything about it. I guess I was in the mindset of 'just keep wrangling the baby and get the job done'. So when BabyLove offered to send me out some Nappy Pants it was kind of like a light bulb moment. I've seen the ads on TV, but it hadn't ever clicked that maybe I should give them a go. I guess my thinking was that because he's not ready for toilet training he also wasn't ready for nappy pants.

I've been using the BabyLove Nappy Pants since the package arrived and I can't believe the difference it has been making. I've been telling Lincoln they're his 'big boy nappies' and his little face looks so proud when we do 'standing changes'!! Seriously, toddlers are hilarious!

Even with our new standing up nappy changes I still have to be super quick, his attention span is really short and at any moment he will attempt to take off in search of his next adventure. The nappy pants have tear away sides, so I basically rip them off him as quick as I can and then (thanks to the super stretchy 360 degree waist band) I help him step into the next pair and pull them straight up. A quick pat on the bum and he's good to go!

An added bonus that I've found since starting to use them is that because there are no tabs he can't unfasten them. Link's not a fan of nappy-free time, but he loves playing with the tabs on his nappies. The end result is usually his nappy falling off and him coming to my crying because he wants his nappy back on. The stretchy waist also helps prevent over zealous dads and grandparents from doing the nappy up so tight that his little belly pops out over the top.

Since switching to the nappy pants they're the only type of nappy I've needed to use, I’ve had them on him overnight and they hold up beautifully. Definitely no dreaded leaks! There is nothing worse than waking up to a toddler screaming because his favourite blanket is all wet (trust me, I've been there...). Trying to get that blanket clean and dry on a day when we have to be out and about early is a disaster.

Another thing I am absolutely loving about BabyLove is that they've made this adorable little baby soother youtube video. Now to be completely honest when I first heard about it I thought it was going to be a bit gimmicky and probably wasn't going to mention it. But I played it for Lincoln and he thought it was the funniest thing ever. He danced along with Baby Bud, laughed and clapped his chubby little hands. When it was finished he said 'more bebe mumma'!! So cute! When BabyLove tested it in Japan it soothed 96% of crying babies, I will definitely be trying it on Elliot next time I can't settle him.

More good news, I have a BabyLove Nappy Pants and Wipes package valued at more than $250 to give to one of you! To enter leave a comment below telling me about the tactics your toddlers have used to try and get away during nappy changes. All the Terms and Conditions can be found here.
In the meantime if you want to go out and buy your own pack of Nappy Pants, they're available at all the major supermarkets. They come in Toddler (9-14kg), Walker (12-17kg) & Junior (15-25kg) and can be purchased in either bulk ($16.99) or Jumbo packs ($29.99). Give them a go, if your toddler is anything like Lincoln you won't regret it! If you would like to request a sample, click here.

(Competition is now closed - congratulations Danni)

  1. The tuck & roll would have put any commando to shame. It was brilliantly executed & lightning fast.

  2. All three of my daughters put up a struggle during nappy time. Squirming, wriggling, twisting and turning, and that is once I managed to grab them out of their hiding spots (usually under the bed, dining table or other spots Mummy couldn't usually fit!)
I would resort to putting a stamp or a sticker on their hand to distract them.
Now with my little niece, I do the same thing as she is a squirmy, wriggly girl too! It causes a distraction for her. I have also blown bubbles for her and that works well.

  3. We just have the standard 'him on one side of the couch me on the other side' style stand off. Hilarious for onlookers not so much for me!

  4. Putting a nappy on my 2 yr old is like dressing an octopus - arms and legs everywhere, then once the nappy is finally on me sitting back puffing as if I've just run a marathon! It's exhausting!!

  5. Bel is a 360er all the way. We try with distractions but it's still hit and miss ;)

  6. I never had any trouble with Madeline - I'm paying for it with Will! My latest tactic to stop him screaming the house down is turn the torch on my iPhone and then change his bottom at lightning speed before he realizes what's happened! Haha! Sarah Edwards

  7. Can't say I've had nappy changing dramas, though my second did take his nappy off to do his first wee on his older sisters doll potty... Nappy pants were great though to get through the prolonged night wetting without my child feeling like she was going back to nappies.

  8. I have to catch Aston first! As soon as he knows it's nappy changing time, it also becomes time for hide and seek!!

  9. I hold my girls both ankles in one and raised in the air to lift their bums - sometime they will use their hips to thrust enough to flip but if I am quick they don't have enough time ;-)

  10. Oh playing Taylor Swift's Shake It Off helps distract Lulu :-)

  11. Ethan used to grab what ever object he could and throw it as hard as he could so that I would have to bend down to grab it. Then he would flip over and try to climb down of the change table, before I could catch him. Cheeky Lil monkey

  12. We have a dinosaur hanging next to Rubens change table which keeps him distracted 90% of the time, to which his dad made up this crazy dinosaur song that we sing. Would hate to think what the neighbours think :)

  13. Rolling. He likes to roll away. He's discovered that if he goes loose and rolls Daddy can't grab him! It's like being on an amusement park ride with a slippery little rascal!

  14. my first child wasn't too bad when it came to nappy changing, but my second born was a real handful. He would roll over, try to crawl away, sit up or just kick and scream. My husband and I had to work together to get the nappy on.

  15. My little one is super naughty - he runs away from me and pretends that he is sleeping & even snores to prove it and when i go near him ,he tries to kick me - This super tired mum does not take all this with happy mood and just want nappy changing time to be easy, happy and a good bonding time for mum and baby.

  17. My son HATES staying still so when it comes to nappy changes
he’ll wriggle his body violently to try and get away. We have had to buy extra
padding for the sides of his change table to stop him hitting his head, arms
and legs. Cheeky little man only does this for me though and when Daddy changes
his nappy he lays perfectly still!!

  19. when he feels that I'm about to change his nappy he hides behind the long window curtain :) When I catch him I have to expect scratching. Giving him the ipad is the only way to calm him down.Baby love would be a great solution to change his nappy without the fuss.

  20. My 2 year old is faster than the Flash! She does a very simple, yet very effective, flip from her belly to her stomach, then leaps up and bolts down the hallway with a bare bum, laughing and squealing. She's probably laughing because I look like I'm trying to hold on to a flopping fish when I try to thwart her escape!

  21. A kick of the legs
    Wriggle on the bum
    And up she hops
    Shes off with the wind
    She wants Tyler she says
    Her brother dearest. ..
    And of course..
    He plays along
    Hiding her from her
    Nappy changing mum

  22. My daughter does the usual antics but lately she points and says 'bird' inside the house. I naturally turn to look and while doing so my daughter rolls away and laughs. Ha ha makes me laugh just thinking about it. They are so clever!

  23. my husband and I nicknamed it the 'crocodile death roll', mid change he would roll and try to escape (usually when not clean) it then turns into a bit of a wrestling match to keep him down!

  24. I am a Grandmother and Great Grandmother of 2 babies, one being a boy Hudson who is 6 months and 6 days old and weighs 22.3 lbs and the girl Adelaide was one on 25/10/14, not sure of her weight. Both are quite easy to change into BabyLove Nappy Pants for now......in my time my son who was born at 11.14 1/4 lbs (5.44 kg) and my daughter Karen was born 8 lbs 3 ozs (3.7 kg). We used cotton and terry towelling nappies and bought Dri Tots when we went camping or caravanning they were 1 dollar (10 shillings) for ? cannot remember all. I am 72 years old and have kept their baby books and weight cards from the Health Sister. I had not much trouble changing their nappies but caught the safety pin in my fingers now and again.....If BabyLove would have have been around then, would have made my day a lot easier, drying was hard as I did not have a drier back then, especially in Winter and wet days.

  26. I call my son's favourite tactic the 'giggle and wiggle'. While I'm laughing at him wiggling his bottom and giggling (complete with cute crinkled eyes and nose) he slips out from my grasp and runs away! Stil laughing of course!

  28. My 13 mth old can't get away fast enough from having her nappy changed, its a real fight to keep her laying down long enough to get a nappy done up. She get lots of raspberries & tickles, that keep her still momentarily. Once done she crawls off quickly, looking back to make sure she's free.....

  29. I have to blow on her tummy while I remove the nappy or she summersaults off bed! I certainly can't use the change table any more. Her 20 week old sister is showing signs of being an acrobat too! Heaven help me!

  30. I put a pillow on the floor and ask my toddler to lie down while I get the wipes. I come back to my toddler nowhere in sight and her doll on the pillow like I won't notice the difference?!?
