This year I decided to put in a pinch more effort and at least switch up my chalkboard to something a little bit romantic.

I've seen this Beetle's quote floating around pinterest for the last month or so, and then when I saw this desktop background I knew exactly what I wanted on my board.
Seeing as it was a nice and simple design I free-handed it. I just pulled my board down off the wall, worked with it flat on the beach and used a chalk pen. It's not perfect, but it's definitely good enough for me!
There are heaps of great tutorials out there if you're looking to do something a little more elaborate on your chalkboard. This one from Ella Clare shows you how to use grids to create your masterpiece and My Sweet Savannah has a great post about how she traces hers.
Tell me, are you planning on decorating for Valentine's Day or do you stick to the main holidays?

So cute! I'm not a big decorator for Valentine's Day either but my dining room table is painted with chalkboard paint and I have been considering drawings something cute on it. Thanks for stopping by the other day.
ReplyDeleteOh I would love a chalkboard dining table Krystle!
Deletelooks fabulous! i can't believe you did it freehand! i shouldn't even try, mine would look atrocious!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meg, the chalk pen made all the difference for me :)
DeleteI'm amazed you just free handed that! Looks awesome :o)

DeleteThis is so cute! I have the worst handwriting and I am jealous of your freehand writing skills!
ReplyDeleteIt was easier than it looks. I promise!
DeleteThis is a GREAT idea. I have never decorated for Valentine's either. I kind of just skip over it, but this has inspired me to try :). Thanks for the idea...I can't wait to pretty-up my chalkboard!

Thanks Amanda, any excuse to decorate right!?
DeleteThat looks just perfect! I need a large chalkboard ASAP :) I only do a bit of Valentines Day decorating but I'd love to do more- hearts are so fun to decorate with!
ReplyDeleteThey are fun :) This chalkboard was just a big frame from the dollar store, I painted the chipboard backing in it with a couple of coats of chalkboard paint. Simple and cheap!
DeleteLove your chalkboard! I mostly stick to decorating for the main holidays with a few simple touches for the other holidays!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! We have a giant chalkboard in our basement playroom, but I've wanted one (for me) in our kitchen for such a long time! Thanks for the inspiration - I love what you did with yours for V-day! Following you on Facebook, and are you on Google +?
